The prototype A1 (Aluminium N°.1) is sent to Turin for wind tunnel testing. Once back on August 23, the “shake-down” follows; the first steps the car takes on its own, on the track within the walls of the Campogalliano complex. A few days later, the first test rides are held on the Michelin track in Ladoux, France. That is where Loris Bicocchi, Bugatti's test driver, meets Jean-Philippe Vittecoq for the first time. Vittecoq is responsible for defining the specifications of the ultra high performance tires for Micheli. During the official inauguration of the plant on September 15, the A1 is under a cloth in the presentation room.
The first test run of the A1 in Italy occurs on the Monza track on Monday January 14th, 1991.
Pavel Rajmis, responsible for the car's development, and the two test drivers Bicocchi and Vittecoq, are present. Vittecoq, now self-employed, works full-time for Bugatti.
Meanwhile, the A1 that is used as guinea pig for the following prototypes and whose chassis gets number 000, ceases to exist and gets dismantled. Its chassis is reused in 1991 for a styling study. Passione Automobile, september 2011 (R. Frere, F. Cooreman).
The A1 car no longer exist, only the chassis remain, dressed with an assymetric styling study in 1991.
