The Bugatti EB110 GT chassis
GT055 was built as a GT but the R&D department used it to develop the RHD version of the EB110. Due to the technical conception of the engine, with the common crankcase between engine and gearbox, the gearshift position was fixed, making the driving position problematic. An asymetrical seat partially solved the problem at first. The GT055 was finally cosmetically converted to a Supersport (without front bumper and fenders) and displayed at the 1994 Birmingham Motorshow. The interior was also a mix between a GT and a SS, with Recaro buckets and upholstery but glovebox from the GT. The tachometer had a double numbering, in km/h and in mph, and side reflectors were positioned on the the rear bumper. Supersport front fenders were added later by the factory.
After the bankruptcy, the car was restored at B-Engineering in Italy and then modified by Dauer (Remus exhaust, interior, rear bumper and rear spoiler). The GT055 was then sold in UK. |
