- Rétromobile 2026 -

Rétromobile is the highlight of Paris Car Week, thanks to the number of cars on display and the huge crowds it attracts. The 2026 edition, celebrating its 50th anniversary, was particularly dense and very diverse: highly prestigious cars (Ferrari 330 P4, Mercedes 500K Cabriolet A, Alfa Romeo 8C 2300B), motorshow classics (Jaguar D-Type, Ford GT40, Ferrari 250 GT Spyder California), very exotic cars (Felber Beach Car, DP Motorsport 935), as well as youngtimer and recent supercars (Ferrari F50, McLaren F1, Pagani Utopia). Featured this year at Axel Schuette's stand is a supernatural trio of Talbot Lago T26 Grand Sport cars, all very different in their styling and concept, but all three potential Best of Show winners : 1946 T26 GS Figoni & Falaschi, 1948 Talbot-Lago T26 Grand Sport Saoutchik Fastback Coupé and 1949 T26GS with bodywork by Antem.

Talbot Lago

Axel Schuette brought together three potential Best of Show winners from any global automotive event at his stand: three incredible Talbot Lago T26 Grand Sport cars equipped with 4.5L twin-cam 6-cylinder engines and bodied by three different coachbuilders: Figoni & Falaschi, Saoutchik, and Antem.
The first of the trio is a 1948 Talbot-Lago T26 GS Fastback Coupé (Grand Sport chassis 110103), commissioned by a french zipper manufacturer from coachbuilder Figoni & Falaschi, who added a playful touch by zipping up the top of the front hood. The car, a sort of rolling Nautilus with its curved, flush lines, looks incredibly modern and highly aerodynamic. It is the perfect illustration of French automotive haute couture.
The second T26 GS on display is none other than the very first GS chassis ever manufactured (Grand Sport chassis 110101, built in 1948), which was entrusted to the french coachbuilder Saoutchik. The inspiration is baroque, frivolous, and exuberant. The car is long, curved, hollowed out, chrome-plated, two-tone mint and chocolate, and the interior is in the same vein with gold instrument dial surrounds. Reading this sentence, one might think that nothing will go together and that the result will be totally kitsch, even ridiculous. That's not the case at all; everything works in excess. This Talbot Lago looks like a queen's car in a fairy tale, but that humans will be able to own, for a staggering price.
The third T26 GS (Grand Sport chassis 110112) took a stylistic departure from the first two, with styling entrusted in 1949 to the Parisian coachbuilder Antem. While the lines were rather understated, resembling a large Jaguar XK150, the engine was more radical. Built specifically for Marcel Paul-Cavallier (member of the Talbot board of directors), this special order consisted of a full Grand Prix mechanics, close to 300 hp. Having heard it roar at the Chantilly Concours, this engine is a monster.

Bugatti

Many eras are represented for Bugatti, with pre-war classics, including a magnificent Type 46 and a beautiful focus on the somewhat unusual vehicles collected by the Schlumpf brothers, such as the Type 64 Coach, the Type 251 intended for a return in competition, and the Type 101 launched after the war. There are also some more recent models, including two Veyrons and a Centodieci.

Various French Cars

A little bit of everything in terms of French cars, with the Venturi 600 SLM that won the 1000km of Monthléry, the presidential Citroën Chaprons, a few Citroën concept cars, and something quite special: the reconstruction of a car that had disappeared, the Avions Voisins C22 Siroco, with its very low body line, which was very anachronistic at the time.

Ferrari

The Ferrari brand is often featured at Rétromobile, and this year is no exception: there is a substantial lineup and many gems: the first of the three 330 P4s built (chassis 0856), the Ferrari 275P (chassis 0816), twice winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans (1963 and 1964), the 250LM with its Drogo nose, winner at Le Mans in 1965, the Felber Ferrari 365 Beach Car, a 250 GT Spyder California, a display of Ferraris in dazzling colors from Lukas Huni and Nikki Hasler, a 400 Superamerica and the 275 GTB formerly owned by Jean Paul Belmondo... in a word: impressive!

Maserati

Usually very present in the halls of Rétromobile with often quite a few Ghiblis, the brand with the trident logo is as discreet as its sales. We can console ourselves with two superb 250Fs with V12 engines and two MC12s, one road car and one Corsa version.

Alfa Romeo

The two highlights reflected two distinct Alfa Romeo's periods in the brand's history: the mighty 8C 2900B with bodywork by Farina, Best of Show at the Peninsula Concours, and the 1967 33/2 Periscopio, ancestor of the famous 33 line, equipped with a 2-liter V8 engine.

Mercedes

As is often the case, there was a flood of Mercedes 300SLs this year, but with a real touch of exotic color, such as the special order from Stavros Niarchos, a Greek shipowner who had his 300SL Gullwing painted in the same blue as his fleet of ships, the Niarchos blue. Also noteworthy were the magnificent 300 SLR and the equally sublime red 500K Cabriolet A, symbols of opulence and excess.

BMW

BMW Art Cars are regulars at automotive events, but since the presentations are usually meticulous and very photogenic, it's always a great pleasure to see them again. Lukas Huni presented an M1 that appeared dark blue at first glance but had striking purple reflections.

Porsche
A beautiful lineup of Porsches this year with quite a bit of diversity, including race cars (956B, 935K3, 718RS61, 963 and the impressive 992 GT3R Rennsport), road cars (a magnificent GT2 in a color combo worthy of an Aston Martin, green with a beige interior), and some very appealing custom builds: a RUF 996 GT3, a legendary DP Motorsport 935, and an outrageously extravagant Singer DLS Turbo, with an asking price of nearly €5 million!

Bentley

There weren't necessarily many Bentleys at this year's Rétromobile, but a few cars were definitely worth seeing. Let's start with a classic 1953 R-Type Continental Mulliner Fastback, whose sculptural lines never fail to impress, unlike its extremely rare convertible version (only four examples), the R-Type Drophead Coupe bodied by Park Ward. Its much more understated line can easily be confused with the next S1 Continental Drophead Coupe (94 examples). Another model of interest is a Continental T unlike any other, as it is the P117 prototype, originally a Continental R chassis shortened by the factory and equipped with a 400hp engine, which would define the production Continental T. This prototype made its world debut at the 1996 Geneva Motor Show and served as the pace car for the 1996 Mille Miglia.

Aston Martin

Despite the presence of a beautiful DB4 GT Zagato (very well known) and a Sanction II (only four ever made), the star of the show for the Aston Martin brand was probably the DBS Vantage driven by George Lazenby, alias James Bond 007, in “On Her Majesty's Secret Service.”

McLaren

It's amazing to think that the days when McLaren F1s were impossible to find are long gone. Now a regular feature at the Rétromobile show, the iconic British car is out in force with no fewer than four different models: the road-going F1 chassis 007, now on sale, the GTR chassis 16R, and two long-tail racing cars, the 25R and the 27R. At the stand of British dealer Joe Macari, Gordon Murray, the famous F1 designer, was invited to present a new car, the GMSV LM GTR.

Various

Rétromobile is all about classic cars, but there are always a few modern ones that slip in discreetly. First up is a German car with Italian styling, the Capricorn 01 Zagato. At a time when there are multiple short-lived electric supercars being launched, this is an “analog” supercar with a 5.2-liter V8 engine producing 900 hp and a modest weight of 1,200 kg. This is a proposal that stands out and makes perfect sense: if combustion engines are phased out in 2035, then enjoy them now, rather than anticipating electric supercars that have not yet found their audience. Another example of a combustion-engine supercar is the Pagani Utopia. This latest Pagani model marks a return to the Zonda's DNA, but it still lacks its charm. It's a far cry from the Huayra, which I never liked.
