The Bugatti EB110 Supersport chassis SS04, called S4, is the second Supersport prototype built by the factory, after the cosmetic GT008. The S4 is the first EB110 built as a Supersport, with a specific chassis number (although this is not the final numbering). The car is aesthetically very close to the very first GT008 prototype, but already features major differences such as the door sill height of the production version and the presence of a fixed, black spoiler, which replaces the GT008's superb center pillar spoiler. The car is still equipped with a GT engine block.

The S4 prototype will be used by Reparto Esperienza to develop the future Supersport series, with extensive testing at the Nardo circuit in Italy. Engine cooling, and in particular the design of the side quarter panel, was the subject of numerous studies, resulting in an evolution of the style of the quarter panel from 7 holes to 5, with modified diameters and orientations. The Supersport S4 appeared in Bugatti's "International Magazine of Automobiles and Other Objets d'Art" in 1993, and was then delivered to Japan, where it took part in the brand's official presentation in Tokyo. The S4 was then used to promote the brand in Japan, with a noteworthy test drive in CG magazine. |
